Privacy
Barcode Caliper is a tool for decoding barcodes and measuring their printed size from a photo. This page explains, in plain terms, what it keeps and why.
Photos you load
Decoding and measuring happen in your own browser. When you load a photo, a reduced copy (at most 900 pixels on its longest side) is also saved on our server, along with the time and your IP address. We use these copies to see where the tool struggles and to make it more accurate. Saved photos are deleted automatically after 90 days.
Photos of labels can show names, addresses or tracking numbers. If you’d rather that information not be saved, crop or cover it before loading the photo.
Visit statistics
Each visit records the time, your IP address, and your browser type, plus an approximate location (city, region, country) and internet provider estimated from the IP address. We use this only to understand how the tool is used.
Your email address
Barcode Caliper asks for an email address before the tool opens. It’s saved with your visits and the photos you load, so we can see who’s using Barcode Caliper. It’s remembered in your browser so you’re only asked once. We only check that it looks like an email address; nothing is sent to it just for using the tool.
If you tick “notify me”, we also add it to a list for launch news and early-bird pricing. Every email we send includes a link to unsubscribe. Your address is never sold or shared.
Accounts
The full report needs an account. Accounts are handled by Clerk, which stores your email (and name, if you sign in with Google) and your sign-in details. Visits while signed in are recorded with that name and email.
Who else sees anything
- Netlify hosts the site and stores the photos, statistics and email list.
- Clerk runs sign-in and stores account details.
- ipwho.is receives IP addresses to estimate location and provider.
- Google Fonts and the jsDelivr code library host fonts and code the page loads, so, like any website that uses them, they see your IP address when you visit.
We don’t sell data, show ads, or use advertising trackers.
Stored in your browser
The page remembers a couple of small settings in your browser — the email you entered, so you’re not asked again, and whether you’ve joined the notify list. Nothing there is used for advertising.
How long it’s kept
- Photos: deleted automatically 90 days after you load them.
- Visit statistics: only the most recent visits are kept; older entries roll off automatically.
- Email with your visits: kept with the visit statistics above, and rolls off with them.
- Email on the notify list: kept until you unsubscribe using the link in any email we send.
Everything is removed automatically, so there’s no need to ask. You can delete your account yourself from the account menu (top right, when signed in). Barcode Caliper doesn’t currently offer a support contact.
Changes
If what we keep changes — for example when paid plans arrive — this page will be updated first.
